| Biography | ||
Rosie Colligan completed her Bachelor of Design with Honours, majoring in illustration, at Massey University Wellington in 2006. Her thesis involved researching the influence changes in society have had on the changes in the tale of Little Red Riding Hood from the medieval period to the present day. Born in Wellington in 1984, Rosie has always been an illustrator from a very young age. Once she had read a book she would create all the characters on paper that she had just read about. A main inspiration for becoming an illustrator was the series of books The Tales Of Redwall by Brian Jaques. She attended Samuel Marsden Collegiate School in Wellington and in 2001 won the St. Johns Art Festival award for the top 5th form painting folio in the Wellington region. She was also one of the top benchmark folios for that year in the country. Rosie is interested in working on any project that involves figure work and/or animal drawing. She has a particular passion for fairytales, ancient myths of any culture and Victorian style illustration. She enjoys the detail and sublety enabled by water colour and likes to often combine this with ink or coloured pencil. Arthur Rackham, Alan Lee, Brian Froud and Beatrix Potter are main influences. She intends to further her studies to include more digital work using Photoshop.
