Brian Lovelock

Biography

Brian Lovelock is a New Zealand-born illustrator and scientist. He has painted all his life, working mainly with watercolour. He is highly regarded for his strong compositions, use of saturated colour and the imaginative perspectives that enliven his illustrations. His artistic interests include portraits, picture book illustration and fashion illustration. Brian’s first picture book, Roadworks (by Sally Sutton, Walker Books) won the 2009 New Zealand Post Book Award for Best Picture Book. Other picture books Brian has illustrated include:
  • The Cat with No Name (by Sher Foley, Scholastic)
  • Your Mother Didn’t Do That (by Sharon Holt, Walker Books).
  • The Rain Train (by Elena de Roo, Walker Books) will be released in 2010.

Brian lives in Auckland with his two children, Jackie and Harry.
