BiographyEmma Scheltema was born and raised in Auckland, New Zealand- where she has had an obsession with ‘making things’ from a very young age. After studying Biology at university, she decided to combine her lifelong interest in creating art with her passion for science, resulting in illustrative work with a general theme of natural history and conservation. She enjoys creating fun illustrations for children, especially ones that educate about the natural world and the amazing things that there are to learn about our environment and wildlife. She also creates carefully rendered technical illustrations for scientific publications. Illustrations are created using a variety of media- usually some combination of watercolour, pen and ink, colour pencil and Photoshop. In her spare time she likes to dabble in stop-motion animation. She is constantly inspired by being outdoors, museums, entomology, vintage nature field guides, children’s picture books and big pots of tea! Achievements
