Biography

Jezreel was born in the Philippines in 1986 and made the big move to New Zealand with his family at the age of 10. Saturday morning animation and comic books sparked his fascination for visual storytelling, and his passion for drawing and creativity grew from a young age.

Whether by drawing crazy characters on the margins of his textbooks or building spaceships with lego, Jez has always been considered by many who knew him as 'that creative kid', and it was during his final year at high school where he decided to pursue a career as an illustrator.

Jez went on to study illustration at Massey University Wellington where he recently graduated with a Bachelor of Design degree with honors and it was there where he embraced the medium. Combining his love for character design and literature, Jez's final year Major Project was an exploration and the design of the main characters of John Bunyan's classic tale, the Pilgrim’s Progress. His recent experience in illustration includes a commission for the School Journal by Learning Media and came third place in the annual BJ Ball Student Design Competition, which was published in the November 2007 issue of PRODesign Magazine. Jez now dreams of working as a fulltime illustrator in book illustration and designing characters for the entertainment industry.
